Most tourists visiting China only visit Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing. However, leaving Xi'an out of one's trip to China is a mistake. Even so, tourists who visit Xi’an only stay for a day or two to see the Terracotta Warriors, losing out on several activities unique to Xi'an. Here is a list of the top things to do in Xi'an.

HuiMinJie Muslim Market

The daily HuiMinJie Muslim Market in Xi'an is a well-known destination for both visitors and residents. The roadway here is lined with vendors offering a range of goods, including food, beverages, spices, snacks, and more. Make your way down the alleyways as well and find a plethora of stores selling items from souvenirs, art to replica designer bags. While the market is just as bustling in the daytime, should time allow, visit the Muslim Market at night as the trees lining the main road become illuminated with mesmerizing blue lights. Arrive as the sun begins to drop for the best photo opportunities.

The Great Mosque of Xian

Xi'an is home to a large community of Hui Muslims, who are represented by the Great Mosque of Xi'an. An ethnic minority in China, they are descended from merchants who participated in the Silk Road commerce. The Great Mosque, which is situated in the HuiMinJie Muslim Market neighbourhood, is the largest of its kind in all of China. From landscaped gardens to various pavilions, the mosque provides a welcome respite from the bustling streets. Stay in one of the Best luxury hotels in AsiaPark Hotel Group to enjoy a scenic stay with more than 12,000 m2 of space to explore beyond The Great Mosque.

Biking on the City Wall is a popular activity

Meticulously conserved and one of the few remaining city walls in the nation, take in breathtaking views of Xi’an via a bike ride. Constructed during the Ming Dynasty, which began in 1300BC and ended in 1700BC, the stone wall has weathered through hundreds of years of wear and tear. Ride all the way to the summit or cycle around the perimeter, which will take you around one to two hours.

Towers of Xi’an

Built in this strategic location in ancient times, the bells were rung in times of emergency and as a signal for special events such as weddings and funerals. The ancient city of Xi’an used bells in the mornings and drums in the evenings to alert its people of the time, a practice that continues till today. The grandeur of the tower also makes for a fantastic photo-op, at dusk, the towers are wonderfully illuminated. Bask in the calm atmosphere after a long day of exploring Xi’an.
