1. Day One

Set aside the first day of your road trip to explore what the whale-watching capital of the world, Hervey Bay has to offer. Travellers based at Oaks Hervey Bay Resort and Spa or any other Hervey Bay hotel in the months from July to November can sign up for a whale-watching cruise to catch a glimpse of more than 25,000 humpbacks occupying the coastline during this season. Travellers with a passion for diving and snorkelling will find that conditions for both activities are ideal all year round at the Great Sandy Marine Park. After enjoying splashing around in the water, head back to town to camp out at some of the best backpacker hubs o the coast.

2. Day Two

The second day of the road trip is the perfect time to explore K'gari, the biggest sand island on the planet. The best way to explore this island is on a 4-wheel drive tour and there are plenty of local tour operators offering packages. Some of the top things to do on K'gari include spending time at its Central Lakes and lounging on stunning 75 Mile Beach which lies on the eastern shores of the isle. About 30 dingo packs call this area home so watch out for the furry creatures as you spend time here.

 3. Day Three

The third day of your journey from Hervey Bay to Brisbane must be dedicated to uncovering the marvel of Fraser Island. Surrounded by Lake McKenzie, the island is best explored on the 55 miles long Fraser Island Great Walk although one does not need to walk the length of the trail to experience its beauty. One of the main points of interest travellers will come across on this walk include the World War II training camp called the Fraser Commando School which once trained troops to carry out operations in the South West Pacific.

 4. Day Four

The fourth day of the road trip should be devoted to exploring the attractions and activity bases of the next interesting town on the journey, Noosa. Revered as a surfer's paradise, fun things to do in Noosa not only include wave riding but also kayaking in Noosa River. Don't forget to drop by Sunshine Beach or walk around historic Hastings Street with its bars, shops and restaurants.

 5. Day Five

Inland should be your destination on the fifth day of the road trip as the Glass House Mountains lies on the hinterlands of the sunshine Coast. Climbing enthusiasts can also tackle Mount Ngungun while others can enjoy a tour of Australia Zoo in Beerwah and marvel at Steve Irwin's legendary conservation hub.

6. Day Six and Seven

The sixth day of the road trip should lead one to the Holt Street Wharf where a ferry can carry one across to Moreton Island. The area is not only ideal for fishing, stand-up paddleboarding and surfing but also swimming. Scuba diving enthusiasts can explore the 15 shipwrecks in the depths around Moreton Island before heading out to witness the sand dunes in the heart of the island.

8. Last Day

Before checking into your Brisbane hotel, road trippers can grab breakfast at a restaurant by the Brisbane River and even enjoy a paddleboat ride on the mammoth body of water to get a sense of their new stomping grounds.
